Monterey Information Monterey is a town of 934 located just southeast of Great Barrington. The town is decidedly rural, with lakes, streams and a large portion of Beartown State Forest within its boundaries. Monterey is a favorite of tourists and vacation- and second-home owners, who enjoy its rural character and its ease of access to the commercial, recreational and cultural assets of the southern Berkshires. Route 23 connects the town directly to Great Barrington on the west and other communities to the east. The Monterey General Store is a destination for both tourists and residents.
