Hinsdale Information Hinsdale is one of the hill towns located in the east central part of the county. Its population of 1,872 is mainly composed of workers who commute to Dalton or Pittsfield. Route 8 passes through the town, providing north-south access, and Route 143 runs east. Because of its rural setting, Hinsdale offers many recreational opportunities and is home to five summer camps. The town’s two lakes also attract summer visitors and lake property owners from surrounding areas. The town center offers stores, gas stations, a library and other amenities.
